- What is your full name? Why did your parents give you that name? I was given the name Cheryl Kay McGill. I was suppose to be Jeffery. The Doctor told Mom that I was a boy because of a slow heart beat. (They used stethoscopes instead of ultra sound in 1960.) So Mom and Dad went out and bought Bunk beds with wagon wheels and cowboy bedspreads for my older brother Scott and I. Weren't they surprised! Dad had wanted to name My older brother Charles after his best friend Chuck Yamaki, and Cynthia if he was a girl, but mom wanted to name him Scott because she liked the name and it was not a common name. Mom wanted to name me Julia Cora Elizabeth, but it was dad's turn to name the baby. On the way to the hospital, he suggested Ethel, after his mother. Well mom really didn't like Ethel, so Dad decided on Cheryl and they thought Kay sounded good with that and there we have it. I kind of suspect I was named after two of Dad's old girlfriends.(Just kidding) Mom and all our close relatives called me Sherry growing up, Grandma called me "Sugarbabe", and Great Uncle Don called us, "Scoot & Squirrel" because Scott liked to run fast and I reminded him of a squirrel with it's cheeks stuffed full of nuts. I didn't really like my name, it wasn't very popular. There was only one other Cheryl in my school. When I was about 7 years old I wanted to change my name to Annie. It wasn't until I was about 30 years old and pregnant with David, that I looked up the meaning of name my own name. There are many variations of the meaning of names in these books, but I really liked this one. It said my name meant "the epitome of femininity". This was extra special to me because I had been going through an intensive time of searching and growing in the Lord. I had recently come to realize that I was not less of a person because I was a female, that who I am and my worth as a human being was not dependent on who my parents were or were not, the amount of money I had or had not, the choices I did or did not make in my past, what I had or had not accomplished in my life. I have value because God values me. He values me enough the sacrifice His own Son for me. I am precious and beloved in His sight.

- What kind of work did your parents do (farm, salesman, manager, seamstress, nurse, stay at home mom, professional/laborer, etc.) Dad was a "metal spinner", a machinist, he turned metal parts and tool on a lathe for the Aerospace industry. He was good at it, a Master Craftsman of his trade. He worked for McDolald - Douglas, Lockheed, General Connectors Corp. and his own company, MCM . Mom stayed at home while we were young. I was 8 years old when she went to work at Lockheed Aircraft as a "Parts Lister". In the 1970's, Lockheed was "downsizing". They had given everyone at the Burbank Plant the option of relocating to Landcaster, CA or Georgia. Mom decided not to move, so she retired after 25 years.
