RODGER DALE WHITTINGTON
March 20, 1952 - September 17, 2010
Funeral Services for Rodger Dale Whittington, 58, of the Bold Springs Community, north of Milburn,Oklahoma will be held Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Milburn with Alvie Perkins, Jr. officiating, assisted by Earl White. Interment will follow in the Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. Whittington passed away on Friday, September 17th, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Tishomingo.
Rodger was born on March 20, 1952 in Ada, Oklahoma to Charles Rodger Whittington and Joretta Fern Gipson Whittington. He graduated from McLish High School in 1970 and married Marilyn Jane Perkins on February 5th, 1971 in Fittstown, Oklahoma. Rodger worked for the Mobil Oil Company for 22 years, retiring in 1996 as a supervisor. He also raised and raced quarter horses for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Melissa Gayle Bird and his grandson, Marcus Tanner Bird.
Rodger is survived by his wife Marilyn, of the home; his son, Wade Whittington, of Milburn; his grandsons, John Rodger Bird of Mulvane, Kansas and Canyon Wade Whittington of Milburn; his son-in-law, John Bird of Mulvane, Kansas; five sisters, Madonna Tidwell & her husband Bubba or Roff,Oklahoma, Rhonda Brown & her husband David of Tishomingo, Twila Ferris of Connerville, Oklahoma, Andrea Rausch & her husband Bob of Ashland, Ohio, and Vanessa Barr & her husband Brent of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers, Robert Whittington of Byars, Oklahoma and Edward Whittington; two sisters-in-law, Clarice LaFevers of Milburn and Carolyn Paris & her husband Larry of Kenefic, Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law, Alvie Perkins & his wife Glenda, of Soper, Oklahoma and Gene Perkins & his wife Mickie, of Milburn; also, a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers for the service will be nephews: Chase Tidwell, Trent Tidwell, Patrick Ferris, Brandon Ferris, Bryant Ferris, Marion Paris, Gene Perkins, Jr., Duane LaFevers, Alan LaFevers, Melvin Perkins, Jr. and Darrell Hedges. Honorary Bearers: Jerry Glen Lewis, Donnie Moore, Andy Johnson, Bob Rutherford, Stanley Graham, Delton Dean, Rick Miller and Kevin Henessie.
